I would say rewards are great incentive, early on. They can be little and inexpensive. What are some small indulgences you enjoy? Best to stick to ones that don't pack on the pounds. Pamper yourself a bit more through the process of giving up cigs. It is similar to what you would do when you have a cold or flu. Take care of yourself and nourish yourself with healthy foods and drinks. Stopping can be quite trying on a person and pampering and taking care of you is a much deserved part of the process. Stopping smoking is one of the most loving things you can do for yourself.
Rewards help you acknowledge you ARE making progess. I believe that is true with any good habit a person is working on. When there is a milestone, get a bigger reward for all your hard work. Maybe take that money you were spending on smokes and spend some on things that give you pleasure. You will have more hours to your days at first. That is a tough thing, or was for me. The days seemed to go so slow. I used to wish a month had gone by. I started going to places where smoking was not allowed. Back then it was allowed many more places than it is now. Before quitting for good, maybe start not smoking is some situations you usually smoke. It makes less triggers when you do stop smoking. I quit smoking in my car and quit smoking most days at work.
Hang in there and remember not to judge yourself or be angry if there is not success on the 1st, 2nd or whatever attempt. You gave your lungs a break and you can do it again. Practice, practice, practice!
